Brian Reich, a comedy author recognized for his work on Late Night With Conan O’Brien the place he created such memorable characters as Masturbating Bear and Pimpbot 5000, died Sept. 12 in Los Angeles. He was 53.

Reich, born April 5, 1969, was a Harvard Lampoon alum. His first job out of faculty was as a author on NBC’s Late Night With David Letterman on the finish of the run. He then segued to Late Night With Conan O’Brien when the Saturday Night Live alum took over the late-night speak present. During his five-year tenure, Reich helped set up the present as one among its key author and creator of a number of signature characters.

“I’m so saddened by the information that we’ve misplaced the hilarious Brian Reich,” O’Brien wrote on Twitter. “He was such an inventively humorous and daring comedy author and he gave our Late Night present a lot good silliness. My condolences to everybody who knew and liked Brian.”

Reich went on to work on Steve Levitan’s Just Shoot Me! and Eagleheart starring Chris Elliott. He grew to become a frequent collaborator to Robert Smigel, together with on Saturday Night Live‘s Saturday TV Funhouse, Triumph’s Election Watch 2016 and Let’s Be Real.

“One of the funniest individuals I’ve ever recognized, my good friend Brian Reich, handed away Monday,” Smigel wrote on Twitter final Friday.

Reich’s sequence credit additionally included Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Sacha Baron Cogen’s Who Is America.
