Dandruff can be a cause of major discomfort as it makes you feel itchy and rough on your scalp all the time. Plus those white flakes of skin can cause much embarrassment. There can be many reasons behind dandruff from dry skin, a common fungus called Malassezia to seborrheic dermatitis. While it does not cause any health hazards, nobody wants it for long. Besides, scratching continuously on your scalp may weaken hair follicles leading to hair loss.

According to Ayurveda, dandruff is caused by an imbalance in doshas. While dry and flaky dandruff could indicate pitta and Vata doshas, wet or a bit oily means an imbalance in Kapha-Vata doshas. To avoid dandruff, one should wash hair at least three times a week and eat a healthy diet rich in Vitamin B, omega fatty acids and zinc apart from protein and vegetables.
