Jimmy Kimmel took the bit too far through the 2022 Emmys, carrying on a joke far too lengthy as winner Quinta Brunson tried to ship her acceptance speech. Kimmel, who was dragged onstage by Will Arnett whereas pretending to be handed out on skinny margaritas after dropping in his personal class, lay on stage for an uncomfortably, and infuriatingly, lengthy interval.
Kimmel remained sprawled throughout the ground as Brunson, the creator of Abbott Elementary, was awarded an Emmy for her writing on a comedy sequence. As she accepted her speech — or tried to simply accept her speech — she needed to step round Kimmel, who obnoxiously refused to maneuver.
Brunson’s huge second was upstaged instantly by the late evening host’s intrusive presence onstage as Arnett tried to actually transfer Kimmel out of the way in which, to no avail, and Brunson tried to crack her personal lighthearted joke, telling him to “get up” as a result of she simply received.
Kimmel, oblivious, merciless or entitled (or all three, we will’t inform) gave a blasé thumbs as much as Brunson, then returned to his “comatose” state in the course of the stage, stealing her second. And boy did Twitter discover, sharply calling out Kimmel for robbing Brunson of the respect she deserved.
“Jimmy Kimmel’s little bit detracted from Quinta’s huge second and that’s simply infuriating,” one wrote.
Another added, “So Jimmy Kimmel is actually gonna upstage her speech by laying on the ground in entrance of her? Like what the fuck.”
Brunson, regardless of the literal impediment of Kimmel, carried out her speech gracefully and managed to maintain the eye on her spectacular writing achievements. While it’s all too simple to get fired up about Kimmel’s disrespect, we will’t overlook Brunson’s hilarious, candy present, and the entire unbelievable work she’s put into it.
Tonight, she made Emmys historical past because the second Black girl to win the writing comedy Emmy award, and she or he’s simply getting began. The second season of Brunson’s fantastic sequence, Abbott Elementary, premieres on ABC this month. Catch the season premiere Sept. 21.
