Honda is the most recent of the established automakers to announce plans to assemble a battery plant within the U.S. to energy future electrical automobiles, becoming a member of the likes of Ford, General Motors, Hyundai Motor Group, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and fellow Japanese automaker Toyota.

Honda on Monday stated it would associate with LG Energy Solution to set up a three way partnership to oversee manufacturing of batteries at a brand new U.S. plant whose location is but to be confirmed.

The two firms will make investments a complete $4.4 billion within the plant which could have an annual capability of 40 gwh. Construction of the plant will begin in early 2023 and the primary batteries must be in manufacturing by the tip of 2025.

The plant will produce pouch-type cells for lithium-ion batteries to be equipped completely to Honda’s North American automobile crops. Honda stated the batteries will find yourself in each Honda and Acura EVs.

However, the upcoming Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX electrical SUVs will use General Motors’ Ultium battery know-how. Those fashions, that are due for 2024, are being developed by GM on its Ultium EV platform and battery set.

LG Energy Solution can be working with GM to set up three battery plants in the U.S. Those crops shall be used to produce Ultium batteries for a number of GM fashions.
