Enrique Tarrio, the chief of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to 22 years in jail on Tuesday for his position in planning the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

In May, Tarrio w as found guilty of seditious conspiracy

together with three others, Ethan Nordean, Joseph Biggs and Zachary Rehl.

Tarrio was not current on the Capitol that day, however prosecutors mentioned that he performed a key position within the planning.

Tarrio’s sentence is the longest of any of the January 6th defendants.

At his sentencing, Tarrio referred to as January 6th a “nationwide embarrassment” and expressed regret for what occurred, in response to the Associated Press.  “Inflicting hurt or altering the outcomes of the election was not my objective,” he mentioned, as he pleaded for leniency.

Prosecutors, although, characterised the right-wing group’s efforts a “calculated act of terrorism.”

The choose within the case, Timothy Kelly, who was nominated by President Donald Trump, gave a shorter sentence than what prosecutors have been searching for, however spoke of the gravity of Tarrio’s conviction.
