Veteran Korean actor Byun Hee-bong, greatest recognized for his work with Oscar winner Bong Joon-ho on movies resembling Okja and Memories of Murder, has died. Deadline reported. He was 81.
In an announcement, Hee-bong’s household revealed that the actor died on Monday after a protracted battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in southern Korea in 1924, Hee-bong started his profession on stage earlier than transferring on to tv. The First Republic (1981), The Joseon Dynasty 500 Years: Seoljungmae (1985), and The Legendary Doctor – Hur Jun (1999) are amongst his main small display screen credit.
Hee-bong later made the transition to the large display screen. He was famend globally for his collaboration with director Bong Joon-ho. Hee-bong appeared in 4 movies directed by the Academy Award winner, together with Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000), Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), and Okja (2017).
He acquired the Eungwan Order of Cultural Merit, the Korean authorities’s second-highest tier of South Korean cultural ornament, in 2020. The President of South Korea bestows the gong for “excellent meritorious providers within the fields of tradition and artwork within the curiosity of selling nationwide tradition and improvement”. My Lawyer, Mr Jo 2: Crime and Punishment, a 2019 Ok-drama collection, was Hee-bong’s last on-screen efficiency. The collection is a continuation of the 2016 tv collection My Lawyer, Mr Jo.
